University in the High School
State University of New York at New Paltz
Program Overview
The University in the High School (UHS) Program at the State University of New York at New Paltz was designed as an innovative way of providing students with the opportunity to earn university credits while still in high school. Since its establishment over twenty years ago, this program is widely popular among American high school students. Today, tens of thousands of high school students enroll in the UHS program throughout the State University of New York.
As a “bridging” experience to college, UHS courses can help students to develop the skills and experiences necessary for academic success. UHS Program courses provide students with the academic challenges of college-level curriculum during their final year(s) of high school. Enrollment in UHS courses may provide future opportunities to students, such as the ability to enroll in higher-level college courses or to complete a four-year degree in a shorter amount of time.
Upon successful completion of UHS course requirements, students will receive college credit from the University at New Paltz. These credits will form the basis of a permanent post-secondary academic record at the University at New Paltz. Credits obtained through the University at New Paltz may be eligible for transfer to colleges and universities throughout the country.
